It may have an Achilles Heel in its timing chain guides, but it isn’t something that scares a true enthusiast with a determined attitude. JHM Tuning - B6/B7 S4 4.2 V8

If you are looking for the ultimate in tuning for your B6/B7 S4 whether it is an Automatic or Manual transmission, you are in the right place. JHM has tested this software to run the 1/4 mile in 12.97 @ 109.1 MPH and have had several customers consistently running in the low 13 second range.

Why is JHM's tuning the BEST for your B6 or B7 S4? Their tuning is specifically designed for an aftermarket exhaust. It isn't just another "cookie cutter" piece of software that will work on a stock car, thus limiting its abilities.

The minimum required for your exhaust system:

  • Downpipes: Piggie downpipes are good. Aftermarket 2.5 inch downpipes are better. We highly recommend the JHM Longtube Headers as the best possible setup.
  • Cat-back: You must at least have a high-flow, dual 2.5 inch cat-back with an X-pipe. We recommend the Fast Intentions 2.5" catback exhaust system. NGP can also fabricate full exhaust systems if desired (please contact us for more information).

Options:

When you place your order for JHM Tuning, please specify your year, body type, octane, transmission type, and flashing method by using the drop down boxes above.

For Flashing Method, select "Flash Myself, Cable Purchase Required" if you're going to be buying a cable from us and flashing your car on your own. Make sure you have THOROUGHLY read through the instructions and are confident that you can set your computer up correctly. If you select this option for your tune, you must select a shipping method for your order so we can ship you a JHM-APR Cheetah Flashing Cable. Please select a shipping method once you've added this product to your cart. Instructions for installing the flashing software on your computer will be emailed to you after purchase.

If you already have a JHM-APR Cheetah Cable, select "I already have a JHM-APR Cheetah flashing cable." **NOTE: This is a proprietary cable manufactured by APR with drivers specific to our Flashing Software so you must make sure that you have a JHM-APR Cheetah cable, NOT just a generic USB Vag Com cable.** After receiving your paid order, we will send you an authorization form which we will use to create your JHM Tuning Flash Browser account and login information. This is the information you will use to access the JHM server and flash your car with the JHM-APR Cheetah Cable that you already have.

Requirements for Tuning Software:

  • Windows computer with at least 1 USB (Universal Serial Bus) port
  • Wired Broadband Internet Connection (wireless can be unreliable)
  • JHM Flashing Cable (Flash cable length cannot extend beyond 10 ft long unless a powered USB hub is installed in-line.
  • Battery Charger or equivalent power source capable of sustaining a 40 amp charge

If you would like to get tuned at one of our shops, please contact us to schedule an appointment! 

Please do not ship us your ECU without first contacting us. This software will overwrite any existing ECU software already on your ECU.

    Best Power Mods for B6 S4

    What are the best power mods?

    I was thinking of the following:

    JHM Tune
    Fast Intentions Down Pipe with Cats
    Fast Intentions Cat-Back exhaust


    Is there actually a good intake available?

    There is no good intake available. But I'm sure someone will disagree with me.

    Best bet is to get everything you listed and the JHM intake manifold and call it a day.

    dont waste time on intake...Audi got it right the first time around.

    Downpipes and catback are a must to unlock cars full potential. Dont waste money on new DP's, just get piggies...you'll still pass emissions and only spend about 3-4 hundred bucks (unless you want to gut yourself which cost you nothing but an afternoon. After you've done exhaust then get a tune and maybe ported manifold and call it a day.

    If you plan on pulling the motor for any repairs (such as timing chain) then splurge and get the exhaust headers as well and install while motor is out. Car becomes a torque monster with these, so I've heard.

    2.5" Fullback + tune. By the looks of it, you've already done your homeworkKeep stock air box as nothing aftermarket has proven to be more efficient just yet.

    For instance the intake flapper that switches to short runner mode to enhance top end performance but it also is in the way causing turbulent airflow.

    I thought the flapper was separate from the intake system. Per the issue you mentioned, is there a known fix for flapper issue?

    Best power modification for the B6 S4, is either it's turbocharged, or the entire 4.2 V8 is yanked in favour of a much more robust (and tuneable) 2.7T.

    Without going FI or doing a swap...Headers with high flow downstream cats (upstream ones gone with headers), LW crank pulley, K&N drop in, JHM Intake spacers, and JHM Tune are my suggestions.

    Not sexy and frequently overlooked, nonetheless more important for the long run than any after market work.

    Op I did FI downpipes with cats and I like the results. Due to Avant with tip, I did not do 2.5 CBs.

    In a word: drone. Avant tips are notorious for this. Sedan cabins are more sealed from exhaust resonance than Avants. Our cars tend to hit the harmonic frequency of "drone" around 1800-2200 RPM. As you know, the shift point for tips live in this range while those with MT can shift around it. In truth all exhausts drone, it's just whether it registers on your tolerance scale. While it is subjective, my research indicated a significant incidence of complaint regarding 2.5 x pipe setups on this configuration. I am sensitive about sound quality and could not tolerate a droning and obnoxiously loud exhaust. Anyway, I reasoned the biggest performance gains were in addressing the restrictive downpipes, which 2.5 pipes sans pre cats do. Hi flow cats act as additional mufflers in containing sound, while piggies are essentially echo chambers that possibly increase drone. 2.25 H pipe with resonators seem to control the drone and sound volume in addition to the cats. My exhaust flies under the radar when I want it to, and makes a statement when I want it to. Yes I left some performance potential on the table, but it does not drone, maybe some slight cabin ambience on cold mornings, which I enjoy. IMHO this exhaust hits the goldilocks zone for this model configuration in performance upgrade and OEM+ sound quality without drone.
