What We Like

  • Monogramming available

  • Patterned and textured duvet covers available

For a wide selection of luxurious bedding, look no further than Crane & Canopy. Their sheets, duvet covers, and quilts are available in a wide variety of high-quality fabrics, and you can even order swatches to help you decide on the fabric, color, or pattern that's right for your bed. Crane & Canopy is best known for their sateen sheets, but they recently added crisp percale sheets and duvet covers to their collection, which are made from long-staple Egyptian cotton woven in Italy.

This is an especially great place to shop if you want colorful bedding. Crane & Canopy offers bedding in a range of colors and patterns, making it the ideal destination for maximalists who want to avoid all-white bedding. Prices are on the expensive side, and the return policy is a strict 30 days, with monogrammed items ineligible for return.

What We Like
  • Excellent return policy

  • Classic designs

  • OEKO-TEX certified

What We Don't Like
  • No sateen cotton sheets on offer

L.L. Bean may be known for their outdoorsy clothing, bags, and footwear, but they also excel at quality bedding for the great indoors. Their flannel sheets in particular are some of the best on the market, but they also have a wide variety of cotton percale sheets in a range of serene colors and classic patterns. You can also find top-notch down and down alternative comforters, plus well-made quilts and coverlets.

Great customer service is another selling point, and all of their bedding has a generous one-year return window. Prices are comparable to popular DTC brands, but vary depending on the product.

What we like
  • Good range of organic/eco-friendly options

  • Store locations nationwide

  • Collaborations with top designers

What we don't like
  • Short return window

  • Unclear supply chain

For a timeless bedroom look, Pottery Barn should be your go-to source for linens like sheets, blankets, and bed skirts. Not to mention their beds and headboards are sophisticated and, naturally, a bit of an investment. You'll find luxury sheet sets and basics as well, many of which can be monogrammed for a personal (and preppy!) touch. Aside from sheets, Pottery Barn's selection of quilts and comforters is particularly good. Prices are surprisingly affordable (depending on the product), and the return window is 30 days.

Pottery Barn Sheets Review

Pottery Barn Sheets Review Breakdown

Pottery Barn offers a wide array of bedding, and most people are likely to find something that meets their needs and preferences among the company’s most popular sheet sets. However, choosing the right bedding requires understanding the benefits and drawbacks of each sheet set’s materials and design.

People who sleep warm, for example, may prefer the lightweight breathability of the Organic Percale Sheet Set. Sleepers in search of durable bedding may also be interested in the Belgian Flax Linen Sheet Set, while those on a budget are more likely to choose the Essential Sateen Sheet Set.

Each of Pottery Barn’s bedding sets has its own potential benefits and drawbacks, in addition to differing price points, available sizes, and color options. This can make the buying process more confusing, so understanding your own needs will help narrow down your choices.

Materials and Construction

A sheet set’s performance and feel are due to its materials and construction, making this category one of the most important considerations when choosing bedding. Pottery Barn’s top sheet sets span various materials and designs.

Organic Percale: This sheet set is made from GOTS-certified organic cotton, an exceptionally breathable material that offers excellent temperature neutrality. This quality is emphasized by the percale weave, which is a crisp and lightweight style popular among people who sleep hot. While thread count isn’t the most important factor when choosing sheets, this set’s 400 thread count offers a smooth feel that should resist pilling and get softer over time.

Belgian Flax Linen: Like cotton, linen is a natural fabric that tends to sleep cool due to its breathability and moisture-wicking capabilities. These lightly textured sheets are made from high-quality flax grown in Belgium, giving them a crisp feel that will soften over time. Linen is a very durable fabric with natural anti-pilling qualities. Bedding made from flax is also hypoallergenic.

Tencel: This sheet set is made entirely from Tencel lyocell in a sateen weave, giving the fabric a soft feel. Tencel tends to be breathable and moisture-wicking, making it a good option for those prone to sweating overnight. Lyocell’s silk-like drape helps minimize wrinkles, but it lacks the crisp feeling that some sleepers want from a set of sheets.

Essential Sateen: Cotton sheets with a sateen weave have a silky texture and a slight sheen that many sleepers find comfortable and attractive. While warmer than cotton sheets with a percale weave, this set should still sleep relatively cool thanks to cotton’s breathability. The set has a thread count of 300, but the sateen weave and the use of high-quality cotton make this set softer to the touch than some competitors with higher thread counts.

Prices and Sizing

Pottery Barn’s sheet sets can vary significantly in price depending on the construction and materials. Cotton and cotton-blend sets cost less, while those made from Tencel lyocell or linen have higher price-points. Although there are less expensive sheet sets on the market, Pottery Barn’s prices are in line with competitors offering sheets of similar quality.

Different Pottery Barn sheet sets come in different sizes. Shoppers with twin or twin XL beds have fewer options to choose from than those with larger mattresses. All of the company’s sets come with a fitted sheet and a flat sheet, and most sets come with two pillowcases. The only exceptions are twin/twin XL sizes, which come with one pillowcase.

Monogramming is available for an additional fee for the Organic Percale Sheet Set, the Belgian Flax Linen Sheet Set, and the Essential Sateen Sheet Set.

Care and Cleaning

The Pottery Barn sheet sets we’ve highlighted can be machine washed and dried. However, the full directions — including temperature settings and stain care — differ between sets. All sheets should be washed before their first use, and regularly washing your bedding enhances the hygiene of your sleep surface.

  • Organic Percale: Machine wash in warm water and tumble dry on medium heat. Remove sheets from the machine as soon as they are dry to prevent wrinkles.
  • Belgian Flax Linen: Machine wash on the gentle cycle using warm water. Tumble dry on low heat and remove the sheets promptly to avoid excessive wrinkling.
  • Tencel: Wash these sheets with cold water on the gentle cycle. They should be tumble dried on low and should not be left in the machine once dry.
  • Essential Sateen: These sheets can be washed in a machine with cold water using the gentle cycle. Tumble dry and remove from the machine once dry to prevent excessive wrinkling.

What size Pottery Barn duvet for Queen bed?

It might be just a matter of whether you like the oversize look, like in Jay's photo.

OP: Do you share the bed? Are the two of you always fighting over the covers? Then maybe bigger is better.

BUT--the flip side: In the winter months, I have a duvet that covers the side pieces of the bed, and I thought that would be good -- extra "blanketing"=extra warmth. Its a duvet for a smaller-size comforter. But it really does tend to overwhelm me, and the look of the bed. It's flannel, so I get overheated with that much more fabric.

Also, it is a BEAR to shake that duvet out in the morning and get the inside comforter's bunched-up parts (on the sides) to get back to where they're supposed to be. There are devices to keep the corners in place (inside laces, velcro, inside buttons, et.), but not so much for the sides. The full-size duvet, for me, verges on the unmanageable to get it back in place, flat, to make the bed look nice again. (It also doesn't help that I have a ceiling fan above the bed--I've bumped it a few times!)

So unless your husband/significant other usually helps you make the bed in the morning, that'd be something to think about.

I think you have a lovely bed, beautiful wood, and I would want to see a bit of the side rails.
