Lee Harris (born 22 October 1972) is an English musician, known for being the guitarist for the band Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets.

Early life[edit]

His parents raised him listening to a lot of what we now see as classic rock bands, like The Who, Rolling Stones, Santana, Allman Brothers, Deep Purple, Joe Walsh, Joe Cocker, ZZ Top, and of course Pink Floyd. He picked up a guitar because he got into Eric Clapton and through it he became a blues purist at the age of 13.

Biography[edit]

He played in a variety of bands in London from his twenties until the late nineties, when his friend Billy Freedom invited him to play with one of his childhood heroes: bassist Norman Watt-Roy of Ian Dury and The Blockheads. He ended up being their webmaster, agent, co-manager, and playing guitar with them sporadically as a touring member over a 12-year period.

Creation of Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets[edit]

His father is a cinematographer and worked with Storm Thorgerson on some Pink Floyd projects, the most famous of which is the High Hopes video. It was at an exhibition of Storm's work that he met Guy Pratt and they became close friends. He asked him to take Watt-Roy's place in The Blockheads at a festival, which is when they first played together.

In the summer of 2015, he saw David Gilmour playing Orange, so he called Guy and met him at the show. After the concert he realized how much he missed playing, so when he got home he took out his Fender Stratocaster and started playing a lot of Pink Floyd music, just as he had done as a teenager. The following year Gilmour returned to play in France again and Pratt invited him to the Nîmes amphitheater.

As he watched the concert, he thought about how much he would love to play Floyd music with Pratt. As he watched Gilmour perform many of his famous solos, he realized that the best way to interest Pratt in playing with him would not be to ask him to play these songs. He started thinking about Nick Mason and probably because they were in an ancient Pompeii-like amphitheater, the early Floyd era, maybe if he would be interested in playing those early songs with them. He told Guy about his idea and he thought it was cool, so he approached Mason.

The timing was serendipitous as the Pink Floyd The Early Years box was four months away from going on sale and Mason was also very busy coordinating his Pink Floyd exhibit so he was surrounded by his past and had to talk about it, instead of being musical.

They arranged a meeting in February 2017 where Mason and Pratt proposed Gary Kemp and Dom Beken to complete the band. Due to other commitments, it took until November of that year for the five of them to be in a room together.
