Summary – Chrysler recalled 6,636 copies of the Dodge Challenger fitted with the W5A580 transmission and the Keyless Go pushbutton ignition option. It seems the stop/start button can be pressed and held, turning off the engine even when the shifter is not in the Park position.
Consequence – If the transmission is not in Park when the engine is turned off, the car could unexpectedly roll away, causing serious injury and property damage.
Remedy – Dodge dealers were instructed to reprogram the wireless ignition node module so that the engine can only be turned off when the transmission and gearshift are in the Park position. This we called was issued in September 2008. Concerned owners can contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Refer to recall H29. Shifting problems and solenoid/pressure switch DTCs – 42RLE transmission
Problem – Drivers may experience 42RLE transmission problems that include slipping and harsh shifts. The check engine light may also be illuminated with the following codes stored in the ECU: P0750, P0755, P0760, P0765, P0846, P0871, P0841.
Solution – The problem may be caused by corrosion in the 10 pin solenoid harness connector. This may also be caused by a wiring issue between the TCM/ECU and the transmission harness connector. A new design 42RLE 10-pin connector will need to be installed and/or wiring issues repaired.

2017 Dodge Challenger recalled to fix transmission glitch

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling the 2017 Dodge Challenger to address a problem with the car's transmission. A software glitch could allow owners to think their vehicle is in park when in fact, it's not.

This isn't the first issue that FCA has had with shifters in recent years. An electronic shifter manufactured by ZF confounded many Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep owners, resulting in 41 injuries, a recall of 1.1 million vehicles, and the death of a budding Hollywood actor. The automaker was on the receiving end of at least two lawsuits related to the faulty component. 

The Challenger's issue stems from a different problem, but it could potentially yield similar results. That problem is rooted in the transmission control module software, which can cause the Challenger's shifter and instrumentation to indicate that the car is in park when in fact, it's not. If that should happen, and if a driver gets out of the vehicle without manually turning off the ignition, the Challenger may roll away, creating the possibility for injury.

Thankfully, FCA says that it knows of no accidents or injuries associated with the software flaw. FCA also notes that "If the vehicles fail to achieve 'park,' a warning chime will be activated, along with this message in the instrument cluster: 'Service Trans … Press Brake When Stopped … Key Off Engine to Engage Park.'"

The recall affects 2017 Dodge Challenger models that came equipped with 5.7L V8 engines and eight-speed automatic transmissions. All told, 7,802 vehicles in the U.S. will need to be repaired, as will 390 cars registered in Canada and 119 from elsewhere. 

FCA will begin mailing recall notices to owners around August 21, 2017. After receiving those notices, owners will be able to take their cars to dealerships for service. Dealers will update the Challenger's transmission control module software at no charge.

Failure Date: 08/25/2010

2010 Dodge Challenger srt8 automatic. Traveling to work on freeway in stop and go traffic around 15-20 mph. My car stalled and I had to coast over to the emergency lane. 20 minutes later I started the car and continued to work. I then had car towed to mak haik Dodge on 1-45 north in houston, texas. Dealer could not find anything wrong after keeping my car for 24 hours. The stalling condition has not happened again. The car only had around 450 miles on the odometer when the stall occurred, I now have around 1100 miles on the car.

2 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2009 Dodge Challenger

I own a 2009 Dodge Challenger srt. I was driving 30mph down a street, honked the horn and braked at the same time and my car completely turned off while still in drive. I have asked all american in odessa where I purchased the car to fix it and they told me that there is no recall on my model car. I printed out recall #08v458000 on the power train automatic transmission. Apparently a module is to be replaced so that the car will not be able to turn off unless it is in park only. This sounds like the problem that I had. The technician at all american said he could not help me since there was not a recall on his (Chrysler) web that requested replacing my model car module. I am just afraid that this will happen again and possibly cause injury. Please let me know what I need to do to get all american to listen to me. I may be the only one that this has happen to so far but I sure hope that it does not happen again or to anyone else just because it was not on his web recall page.
