Teens on TikTok are hoping Juice Wrld faked his death, thanks to widespread conspiracies and an eerie meme

  • As with many shocking celebrity deaths, conspiracy theories have surrounded the passing of 21-year-old Jarad  Anthony Higgins, known professionally as Juice Wrld.
  • This time, the conspiracies have been particularly popular on the app TikTok, where young fans of the rapper are hypothesizing that he may still be alive.
  • One of the main coincidences in the theory involves a TikTok trend that reached the height of its popularity a few months before Higgins died after a seizure. In the trend, TikTok users faked seizures to an edited version of Juice Wrld's song "Lucid Dreams."
  • Higgins also tweeted in 2017 that it was his goal to get famous for a few years and then fake his death, fueling the conspiracy. Some TikTok users think the fake seizure trend either predicted or manifested Higgins' death, which was confirmed to Insider by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
  • Visit Insider's homepage for more stories.

Conspiracies that dead celebrities are really alive are nothing new. In the case of 21-year-old Jarad Anthony Higgins, professionally known as Juice Wrld, those theories have sprung up on TikTok and convinced many of his young fans that he could still be alive. Juice Wrld reportedly had a seizure early Sunday morning as his plane was being searched by police in Chicago.

The conspiracy also involves TikTok, because there was a trend on the short video-sharing platform a few months ago to fake a seizure to the Juice Wrld song "Lucid Dreams" before Higgins died after a seizure on December 8. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed to Insider on Sunday that Higgins had died.

The top trending TikTok for the search term "Juice Wrld" is a breakdown of the conspiracy that had almost 3 million likes at the time of publication. The "#juicewrld" tag is full of similar videos.

In the @seamusgarvin video, the user reviews the most viral aspects of the conspiracy.

"I'm not trying to make fun of his death, but it's crazy how many little things connect here," he says. The first coincidence is a TikTok trend that peaked in popularity a few months before Higgins' death.

The sound associated with the trend is the most popular Juice Wrld song, "Lucid Dreams," with a tech-y static sound edited into it. During the edited part of the sound, the person in the TikTok fakes having a seizure by shaking and letting water fall out of their mouth.

Other coincidences involve the lyrics of other popular Juice Wrld songs. In "All Girls Are the Same," the rapper says "I'm a jealous boy, really feel like John Lennon." December 8 was the day Lennon was murdered, the same day Higgins died.

In the song "Legends," written in memory of Higgins' friends and fellow rappers XXXTentacion and Lil Peep, Juice Wrld says "What's the 27 Club? We ain't making it past 21." He died six days after turning 21.

The most damning element of the conspiracy, according to @seamusgarvin, is a tweet sent from Juice Wrld's official Twitter account on April 24, 2017. It says "My goal is to get overly famous, shine for a couple years..then fake my death ⚰️"

The comment sections of the videos seem to be mostly in agreement that Higgins' death is suspicious. A comment with more than 10,000 likes on the @seamusgarvin video says "I live like 5min from the airport he 'died' at, there were no sirens no emergency cars or anything, I was up all night."

"I may sound crazy here and he very well may be gone and if he is he's in a better place," said TikTok user @absorberyt, who posted his own video about the conspiracy and says he doesn't believe Higgins is dead. "I hope he's not. I'm just trying to give people hope, trying to give myself hope that he's fine."

That video has more than 145,000 likes.

Conspiracies around Higgins' death seem split into two categories: that he's still alive and the seizure was a hoax, or that the TikTok seizure meme manifested his death. Similar theories spread after XXXTentacion's death, but this time, the eerily prescient TikTok meme has seemingly given the conspiracies a credibility boost to young fans.

But The New York Times reports that law enforcement officials were waiting for Higgins' private plane to land in Chicago early Sunday morning, having received information from a federal task force that drugs and guns were suspected to be on board.

During questioning, Higgins began convulsing, and federal agents administered Narcan – a drug meant to revive those overdosing on opioids. TMZ reports that people on the plane with Higgins say he took several unknown pills before seizing.

The Chicago Fire Department arrived to the airport about seven minutes after Higgins started convulsing, and he was taken a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 3 a.m. An initial autopsy didn't conclusively determine Higgins' cause of death, and additional studies will be administered.

No drug charges have been filed yet, but luggage on the plane contained 70 pounds of marijuana in 41 vacuum-sealed bags, along with six bottles of liquid prescription codeine cough syrup and three firearms.

10 Juice WRLD Tracks to Add to Your Playlist

As Juice WRLD joins the long list of musicians that have sadly left us too soon, his music continues to live through the many fans that enjoy it to this day. Juice WRLD’s music brings an insight into the newly established ‘Emo Rap’ genre which has become increasingly popular since the mid 2010’s. Juice WRLD’s ability to express his raw emotions while also producing a catchy and unique beat throughout his songs shows the depth of talent he had as an artist.

Whether you are an OG Juice WRLD fan or you have just become acquainted, here are 10 tracks that are a must for your playlist.

1. Come & Go

One of my absolute favourites from Juice WRLD’s latest album “Legends Never Die.” The track has a perfectly fitted feature from American DJ Marshmello who brings an upbeat spin to the hit. The lyrics describe Juice WRLD’s faults when it comes to love and relationships, and he goes on to explain how he is always trying to better himself and doesn’t want this relationship to “Come & Go.”

2. Stay High

Diving deep into Juice WRLD’s battle with substance addiction, the song talks about his need for staying high in order to cope with the lows of his life. The sombre track is a perfect example of his ability to mix the emotional vocals and instrumentals commonly found in “Emo” music with a seamless feature of rap and hip-hop.

3. Wishing Well

The topic of substance addiction was a prominent theme throughout Juice WRLD’s latest album Legends Never Die, particularly in the hit ‘Wishing Well’. He describes his struggles with depression and drug taking and his desire to overcome these issues. During the chorus he references the track  ‘Killing Me Softly’ by The Fugees and also the lead singer Lauryn Hill, which is sadly alluding to Juice WRLD’s acknowledgement that the very thing he is taking to try and rid him of his pain, is also slowly killing him.

4. Smile

Another collab on the Legends Never Die album features the incredibly talented The Weeknd. The two were in talks of collaborating back in September 2019 when Juice WRLD expressed his desire to work with him via tweet. Originally titled “Sad”, the track describes Juice WRLD’s desire to see his girlfriend ‘Smile’ while he struggles with his inner demons. The track eerily predicts Juice’s untimely death within the lyrics:

“Devil on my shoulder tellin’ me I’ll die soon

I don’t really want that to impact you”

5. Conversations

The title of the song ‘Conversations’ references the devil inside Juice WRLD’s head, who he is not yet ready to confront. Instead he chooses to continue to numb his pain through the use of alcohol and drugs. He mentions how it is an expensive habit to keep by comparing it to the likes of luxury brand Dior: “Numb the pain with Oxy and Dior, yeah, pricey”

6. Bad Energy

Juice slows things down in this track to discuss his addiction of Codeine and Oxy (Oxycodone). He goes onto mention his love for girlfriend Ally Lotti, who fans believe he was engaged to. Ally is seen wearing a ring on her left hand in her last few photos with Juice before his death.

Gino October – New Day ft. INF

7. Blood On My Jeans

‘Blood On My Jeans’ is another track where Juice WRLD mentions his feelings for girlfriend Ally Lotti, referencing a tweet from July 2019where he said that he wanted to give up codeine for her as he knew his addictions were hurting her. He referenced this in the lyrics:

“I value my relationship, it’s forever

But I’ve been cheatin’ on the drugs (Yeah)

Broke up with Codeine, need a new plug (Yeah)”

8. Hate The Other Side

‘Hate The Other Side’ delves into the topics of relationship struggles during Juice WRLD’s rise to fame. The song features vocals by The Kid LAROI and Polo G and is produced by Marshmello. The ‘other side’ is referring to females – Juice WRLD was raised to put money and his friends before women, which contributed to his struggles with relationships: “I was taught to love my brothers and to hate the other side”

9. Can’t Die

Juice WRLD hails from Chicago, which is known to have some of the most violent neighbourhoods in the United States. ‘Can’t Die’ alludes to Juice WRLD’s inability to die as he believes he “never was alive” due to the depression he encountered from many of his friends passing away. He implies within the lyrics that despite his success, he still feels the pain from losing his loved ones:

“Now I’m getting richer

But it’s too many people missing from the picture”

10. Lucid Dreams

‘Lucid Dreams’ comes from Juice WRLD’s debut full length album Goodbye & Good Riddance. The popular track peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was likely one of the most streamed songs of 2018. Juice describes the aftermath and turmoil of a breakup to be like lucid dreaming, where you can be in a conscious state while in a dream. In an interview he said the message he wanted to convey to fans was to “just be aware of your feelings.”

The common theme in Juice WRLD’s music is about the struggles and addictions he experienced throughout his life. His ability to express his emotions and experiences through his music is why he has so many fans that can relate to him, and support him to this day.The title Legends Never Die implies that even beyond the life of the artist, true art such as music continues to live amongst the many fans that enjoy it. #lljw

Juice WRLD fans received a pleasant surprise while listening to Drake’s newest studio album Certified Lover Boy.

On the Drizzy and Kid Cudi collaboration track “IMY2,” a clip from a 2019 interview Juice conducted with Montreality was featured in the beginning of the song. The late rapper could be heard saying, “I think that’s what life is about. Truly finding yourself. And then closing your eyes and dying in your sleep.”

The interview that was referenced took place just four months before the “Lucid Dreams” rapper died of an accidental overdose. However, fans were excited to hear his voice on the long-awaited album.

“Shoutout to @Drake for putting @JuiceWorlddd vocals on his album #drake #CertifiedLoverBoy #Juicewrld #music #hiphop,” tweeted @SZNshort.

Twitter user @declanwav wrote, “Something bout the Juice WRLD intro going right into the first Cudi x Drake song in 10+ years... insane.”

“This mf Drake put Juice WRLD on his album?! Bruh my life. I don’t care if it’s just a lil intro. That shit just made my heart smile fr,” tweeted @MDBWRLD999.

Juice WRLD - Bandit (Lyrics) ft. NBA YoungBoy

A new Lil Pump song has Juice Wrld fans up in arms.

On Saturday (April 25), video surfaced online of Pump previewing a new track. In the snippet, which appeared in a tweet from a rap fan page, a turnt Jet Ski delivers the lines "Mama told me, 'Don't go to school on a Percocet'/Like Juice Wrld, 70 pounds on the private jet/I was in a purple Wraith riding with two bricks of meth/Uh, I shot him in the arm but it hit his neck (Like)."

The Juice Wrld name-drop references an incident involving the late Chicago rapper at Chicago Midway Airport last December when authorities discovered 70 pounds of marijuana in carry-on bags on the rapper's flight. The incident preceded the beloved rapper reportedly going into a seizure and eventually dying the same day from an accidental overdose.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the lyrics in Pump's song, many people were not feeling Pump's use of it less than six months following Juice's death.

"Nah this is soo disrespectful," one person commented in a Twitter response to the initial video.

"Fr. kid is so stupid," another person tweeted. "There would have been so many mutual listeners between pump and Juice that he literally just pissed away. how tf can i listen to dude if he's making fun of one of my favourite artists' death?"

While some people saw no issue with the line, others accused the South Florida rapper of clout-chasing.

See what upset fans had to say about Lil Pump's Juice Wrld name-drop in a snippet of his new song below.
