Stafford Apartments for Rent

Looking for Stafford, TX apartments?

Stafford, TX is a family friendly community located within the Houston Metropolitan area. The community has a small-town feel even though it had a population of over 15,000 during the 2000 census and it's expected to be increased significantly since that time. Stafford was originally largely an agricultural community. However, in recent history Stafford has become home for regional satellite offices of large companies such as Texas Instruments, BMC Software, and Internet America.

The city of Stafford is very supportive of the arts. In 2001, an Arts and Education Development Zone was established in the center of the city. The Stafford Centre opened in 2004 and includes meeting and expo space, a festival area, and ballroom space. In addition to this area, residents enjoy the use of five city parks with jogging trails, playgrounds, lakes, and more. Even though Stafford is small geographically speaking, covering only 7 square miles, it enjoys shared benefits of premier medical facilities, a public transportation system, and employment opportunities of its big city neighbor, Houston.

Johns Hopkins Transportation Wed Site: "Using a combination of buses and vans, six routes connect the Homewood Campus with the following Johns Hopkins properties: the Carey Business School, FastForwardU, JHU at Eastern, JHU at Keswick, JHU at Mount Washington, Johns Hopkins Bayview, Johns Hopkins Medical Institute, the Peabody Institute, R. House, and Stieff Silver.

The Blue Jay Shuttle service operates on a combination of request-only Night Ride and ride-anytime fixed-routes in an area proximate to the Homewood campus from 5:30pm to 3:45am nightly, seven days per week, excluding University holidays and other dates as determined by the University.  The service also operates at the Peabody Institute from 6:00pm until 3:45am. Shuttles are equipped with TransLoc, a GPS-based real-time transit information system available online or through a mobile device.  To view the Blue Jay Shuttle routes and to track the vans, go to http://jhu.transloc.com on either a computer or a smartphone.  TransLoc’s free app is available at https://transloc.com/app/.

The Homewood route includes marked “flag stops” – safe passenger loading zones – at selected university-owned buildings, off-campus residence halls and commercial/retail locations.  Passengers must be at a designated flag stop and use their J-Card to “flag the shuttle” in order to board route vans.  Drivers do not deviate from their fixed route except in the case of emergency, but, may drop off at other safe locations along the route upon request.  All Johns Hopkins affiliates with a valid J-card can use the Blue Jay Shuttle.  Passengers are expected to carry all personal items, backpacks, grocery bags, etc. on and off the shuttle in one trip so as not to delay the shuttle." 6,204 Apartments for rent in Stafford, TX

Stafford was once known as Stafford's Point, this city grew around a plantation that William Stafford had to rebuild after a Mexican general burned it down during the Texas Revolution.

Stafford, which now has a population well over 17,500, according to the 2010 U.S. Census, began with very humble beginnings. In fact, there were only 50 people living there in 1884. The population rose and fell, even dropping to 100 in 1914 after having reached a peak of 300, before experiencing a huge boom after 1946. Even with an ever-increasing population, however, the city has managed to set aside over 35 acres of land as municipal parks.

Having trouble with Craigslist Stafford? Can't find that special apartment for rent on Apartment Finder or Zillow? Apartment List is here to help!

Moving to Stafford

You could definitely say that Stafford is a relatively popular city in Texas. After all, it experienced a 14.5% population growth between 2000 and 2012. Stafford must have something going for it if people keep moving there. When looking for apartments or home rentals in Stafford though, you're going to have to do a little prep work to find the best place for you.

When to start looking

You probably need to start looking at places for rent immediately. Over half of the population of Stafford consists of renters, and while this means you'll be in good company it also means that places get snatched up relatively quickly. Everything is bigger in Texas, and this includes the competition for great rental homes. So yeah, enjoy the hunt!

When to make the move

There's really not much to stop you from moving to Stafford at any old time. The city is just far enough from Houston so that it's unlikely to be affected by any big city commotion. If you want comfort though, you might want to avoid the summer months. Average high temperatures can hit the high 90s and the record high was 108 degrees in 2011.

What to bring along

Whether you're seeking out a large apartment or a studio apartment for rent, you're going to need to bring along a few things. First off, bring references from prior landlords. Many may not even ask for these, but having them will definitely land brownie points. Also, it never hurts to bring along a credit report. Though the property crime rate is slightly higher in Stafford than the rest of Texas, a background check would do wonders in helping the landlord agree to your rental offer.

Stafford Neighborhoods

One of the most awesome things about Stafford is the fact that it's relatively quickly growing population has resulted in some great and unique experiences in and around the city. Here are some of the highlights of living in each area.

South Main Street: If you've got serious errands to run, you're in the right place here. The Stafford Municipal Complex is here, but for something that's a little more fun you could check out what's going on at the Stafford Civic Center.

City Center: The City Center has a ton of residential areas and this includes apartment complexes and housing for rent. You'll also be next to the performing arts at Stafford Centre, and you can always feel safe since the Fort Bend ISD Police Department is located here.

FM 1092: This area is also heavily residential, but it's also home to several higher-education organizations. Fortunately, you're also close to Interstate 69, so you can get anywhere you need easily.

West Airport Boulevard: Ever worry about fires in the arid environment of Texas? Well the Sugar Land Fire Administration is in this area, so you should be fine. Oh, and if you do need to evacuate you can always catch a flick at AMC Loews Fountains 18.

Living in Stafford

Alright, so living in an area isn't always just about how close you are to certain services. Sometimes it's about the overall experience. Well, slow your roll, because Stafford stands pretty strong in that area as well.

Experience Some Top-Notch Acting

The Fort Bend Theatre hit its 25th season in 2013, and if you think you're a good actor, prepare to feel humbled. The theater has things going on nearly year round.

Knowing How to have Fun

Some places are content without having festivals. Not Stafford. Enjoy the Houston Hot Sauce Festival around September every year.

Get Out and Go

The renowned Affordable Tours agency is actually located in Stafford, so booking your next vacation is simple. Most of the year though, you'll be happy as can be just hanging in your new home in Stafford.
